Good Day all, I am writing you with the hope that we can partner together to assist the victims of Hurricane Ike in the Houston/Galveston, TX area. I have been in contact this week with Dr. CJ Gilbert, Pastor of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, TX. He also is connected with some of the Pastors in Galveston. He stated that most Pastors in Galveston have not been able to have services the last two weeks, because of flooding and loss of power and that other churches are gathering under tents. A lot of churches in the region, including his, has suffered moderate to extensive damage.
He mentioned to me that the biggest need right now is food. A lot of people are still not working, so money is tight and food is a real issue. Many people from Galveston have moved in with relatives in Houston and other places in the region.
There are two ways you can help:
1. Collect gift cards(any amount) from Kroger, Wal-mart or Target. The gift cards will be sent to Pastor Gilbert who will then distribute them to the pastors in the area to give to their parishoners. These are the three grocery stores they have in TX that we also have here.
2. A food drive for non-perishable items during the month of October. Our goal is to send some food down to them during the week of October 20-24. Depending on how much we get after that, we may send more food down.
